Mary
Macleod MP visiting Training Connect’s headquarters in Hounslow
Recently Mary Macleod MP, Member of Parliament for Brentford and Isleworth, met with Semida Haji (Academic Director) and Sid Kundi (Business Development Manager) of Training Connect Limited (www.TrainingConnect.co.uk) in Hounslow to discuss their work teaching English as a second language and how this affects the community. The meeting was held at Training Connects Head Office in the Vista Building, Hounslow. Training Connect is a provider of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses, based in Hounslow since 2007. They are an accredited college that deals with those who are seeking a British passport, indefinite leave to remain or a work permit, and as a provider of these qualifications. Training Connect had recently hit a milestone of 25,000 students.
Training Connect was established in early 2007 to meet an urgent and widespread need for courses in ESOL. This need arose from new regulations introduced by the UK Border Agency (UKBA) to address the politically sensitive issue of immigration. Since then, Training Connect has trained over 25,000 students from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds and established a nationwide network of training centres manned by skilled, multilingual staff.
Mary found the meeting very informative and she was grateful to hear about the work they are doing.
Mary took the opportunity to ask Semida and Sid how Training Connect supports its learners, and was told that Training Connect thinks it of paramount importance that its learners be given an excellent grounding in the English language, as well as accurate advice. Mary met with different departments, as well as a number of learners, and she could appreciate the criteria set out by the Home Office, accrediting bodies and awarding bodies that colleges such as Training Connect have to adhere to.
Mary Said
“I am impressed by what Training Connect have managed to achieve in such a relatively short timeframe. In fact, some students had travelled to Hounslow from as far away as Glasgow simply because of the excellent reputation that this organisation has. The Government recognises the importance of continuing to help integrate those who come from different backgrounds and ESOL is an integral part of this. I wish Training Connect the very best for the future, and look forward to them reaching their next milestone of 50,000 students.”

Gavin Shuker MP visits Training Connect, Luton.
Training connect was set up to help the community who need to demonstrate a basic level of English and by gaining a certificate at an accredited centre like the one on Dunstable road one can apply for a British Passport, Indefinite leave to remain or Work permit.
Training Connect has grown from a small organisation to have several centres and has trained over 29000 students since setting up in 2007
Gavin shared his love for his constituency and the fact that he received many immigration related queries.
Gavin met with some students and teachers and on the whole was impressed that the centre were exploring even more courses like ICT courses, online numeracy and literacy and driving license courses which would give back to the community.
At a time when the government is cutting funding and there is an equal drive to create community cohesion and integrate people coming from other countries outside of the EU. Gavin says it’s important to have such organisations that can be a medium for learning and he wishes Training Connect every success for the future.
